A question to ask yourself this Erev Shabbat . . . Do I REALLY “fear” God?
Does what I state as my beliefs and how I live my life show my FEAR of God?
I challenge you with this
because many that that call themselves believers
rationalize things are good that are NOT – in spite of the following warning:
Isaiah 5:20 (CJB)
20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who change darkness into light and light into darkness,
who change bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter!
This is a NOT a verse to dismiss casually . . . it is a verse to dwell on . . . to consider its implications – – – it is a warning!
When you say you abide in Him – that you have the light in you, you are also given a warning:
Luke 11:35 (CJB) 35 So take care that the light in you is not darkness!
This verse is specifically about generosity vs stinginess but the application is a heart issue which applies above.
If you say you abide in Him – that you reflect the light that is Him, but are stingy – – – Do you REALLY? You say you have the light but if you are stingy, the text implies that it is not light in you but darkness.
When we DON’T fear God, we start calling good evil and evil good in spite of the warning from Isaiah – Sodom is a good example of this:
Genesis 19:4-7 (CJB)
4 But before they could go to bed,
the men of the city surrounded the house —
young and old, everyone from every neighborhood of S’dom.
5 They called Lot and said to him,
“Where are the men who came to stay with you tonight?
Bring them out to us! We want to have sex with them!”
6 Lot went out to them and stood in the doorway,
closing the door behind him, 7 and said,
“Please, my brothers, don’t do such a wicked thing.
This is the warning given again in Jude:
Jude 1:7 (CJB)
7 And S’dom, ‘Amora and the surrounding cities,
following a pattern like theirs,
committing sexual sins and perversions,
lie exposed as a warning
of the everlasting fire
awaiting those who must undergo punishment.
If you go to a movie where they commit sex outside of marriage, you are just as guilty as Sodom . . .
whether you commit the acts
you are PAYING TO SEE THE ACTS COMMITTED (Voyeurism),
they are a perversion of the God sanctioned and PRIVATE gift of sex between a man and a woman who have made a covenant relationship between God and themselves of marriage . . .
That is why the following warning and PROMISE is given:
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (CJB)
9 Don’t you know that unrighteous people
will have no share in the Kingdom of God?
Don’t delude yourselves —
people who engage in:
sex before marriage,
who worship idols,
who engage in sex after marriage with someone other than their spouse,
who engage in active or passive homosexuality,
10 who steal,
who are greedy,
who get drunk,
who assail people with contemptuous language,
who rob —
none of them will share in the Kingdom of God.
The text says:
Don’t kid yourself – YOU WILL NOT GO TO HEAVEN!
Just like Sodom, modern society today has abandoned God’s Torah –
the book of Torah
the person Torah who is Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Christ).
This is a litmus text for your fear of God –
If you dismiss this warning or rationalize it away, you do NOT fear God – period!
If you say these things are no big deal in speech or by personal example,
you are CALLING GOD A LIAR!
You are daring him to make good on his promises –
you are facing him and sticking out your middle finger at Him –
you are saying: I DON”T BELIEVE YOU!
I face people that proclaim to be believers (Christian and Messianic) everyday that do just this –
in their words . . .
in their actions . . .
in their walks . . .
They do this in spite of what the text says,
“Woe to you that call evil good and good evil . . .”
Am I preaching? YES!
It is my prayer that it will cause you to pause, if only for a moment, and consider what it means to be in fear of our Lord and Creator and the succinct warnings that He has given and gives.
I would recommend reading two of my previous posts that deal with this more in depth:
