We love the anti-christ!

anti-christ

Disturbing title, huh?

It should be. After all, it is proclaiming love for the anti-christ. So let’s jump right into it and ask some serious questions:

  • Would you go to a church, shul, or synagogue that proclaimed they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you follow a Pastor or Rabbi that proclaimed that they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you buy a book by someone that proclaimed that they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you buy a CD of a musical artist that proclaimed that they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you buy a ticket to go see a movie if the star proclaimed that they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you love a sports team that proclaimed they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you belong to a political party that proclaimed that they loved the anti-christ?

  • Would you join a website where the founder of that website proclaimed that they loved the anti-christ?

Here is perhaps a more important question:

  • Would you study a bible (collection of sayings/writings) of an actual anti-christ himself?

Of course not, right?

What would you do if anyone in the above questions proclaimed their love for an anti-christ? Walk out of the church or shul? Throw the CD in the trash? Tear your movie ticket up? Join a different political party? Get rid of you signed and framed sports jersey hanging on the wall of your man-cave?

We will revisit the serious questions above after we learn a few things. For example, what is an anti-christ ἀντίχριστος antichristos biblically? An interesting question since there was no term anti-christ in any of the classical Greek writings (secular, profane or non-biblical Greek).

The term antichristos does not occur in any literature other than Christian so we can say little about the background of this term in classical Greek or profane Greek.

Thoralf Gilbrant, ed., “497. ἀντίχριστος,” in The Complete Biblical Library Greek-English Dictionary – Alpha-Gamma, (Springfield, MO: Complete Biblical Library, 1991), WORDsearch CROSS e-book, Under: “497. ἀντίχριστος”.

To understand what an anti-christ is, we first have to understand what a christ is. Contrary to what most people seem to think, and based on the way that that most people use the word, Christ is not a last name. The Greek word for Christ Χριστός Christos is informed by the Hebrew word and understanding of

מָשִׁיחַ‎ māshîach or Messiah.

It simply means: anointed of God. There were many christs in the text. King David was a christ. The polytheistic king Cyrus was a christ. If you want to read more in depth about the topic of more than one christ in the text, you can read my post: More than one Christ?

This seems to be a good place to ponder the following question:

If christ means anointed of God, what does anti-christ mean?

Historically, we know that the Greeks didn’t have a term for anti-christ. How could they? They did not have a biblical messianic belief in the first place.

The Greeks did not have any messianic belief and could not know of an anti-Messiah.

Thoralf Gilbrant, ed., “497. ἀντίχριστος,” in The Complete Biblical Library Greek-English Dictionary – Alpha-Gamma, (Springfield, MO: Complete Biblical Library, 1991), WORDsearch CROSS e-book, Under: “497. ἀντίχριστος”.

Interestingly enough, the Greeks did have a parallel belief. The Greek word for god is theos. The Greeks had a word for somebody that was anti-god with their word anti-theos.

In the Greek, anti means false or lie. Contrast that understanding with combination of anti and christ (anti-christ) combined together and you get a very clear meaning – an opposite meaning from anointed of God (christ).

What is the Jewish understanding of an anti-christ?

The Old Testament anticipates the “man of lawlessness.” At first he was presented as the opponent of God. Later Judaism understood him to be an “anti-Messiah” who would oppose the true Messiah when He came. As early as the Historical Books we find Belial, “the worthless or wicked one,” presented as an archenemy and personal opponent of the Lord. Men who are especially wicked are called “sons of Belial” (Judges 19:22, “wicked men,” NIV) or “a daughter of Belial” (1 Samuel 1:16, “wicked woman,” NIV). The rabbis interpreted Belial as “one without a yoke,” in other words, “one without the yoke of the law” (cf. “lawless one”). The Septuagint translates Belial with paranomos, “one who violates the law” (para [3706], “beside,” and nomos [3414], “law” [e.g., Judges 19:22; Deuteronomy 13:13]). The pseudepigraphic literature calls Belial the “godless one” (Psalms of Solomon 17:11), and it is noted that he would supposedly perform mighty signs and raise the dead (Sibylline Oracles 3:63ff.). Through these “miracles” he would lead many astray (ibid, 3:73). He is termed “the man in purple clothing” (an obvious reference to kingship or royalty) who causes much bloodshed and is the rival of Messiah (ibid., 3:388). Paul may, in fact, be referring to similar traditions when he spoke of the Antichrist as “the lawless one” (NIV) and that “Wicked” (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

Let’s see what the text says an anti-christ is:

1 John 2:22 (CJB)
22  Who is a liar at all, if not the person who

denies that Yeshua is the Messiah?

Such a person is an anti-Messiah (anti-christ)

he is denying the Father and the Son.

By biblical definition, atheists are anti-christs. Mormons are anti-christs. Islam is anti-christ. Jehovah’s Witnesses are anti-christs. Why? The text tells us so:

1 John 2:23 (CJB)
23  Everyone who denies the Son

is also without the Father,

but the person who acknowledges the Son

has the Father as well.

The text couldn’t be more clear!

To be anti-christ is to be anti-God!

Anti = false, lie.

Truth = God and His son He sent Yeshua (Jesus)

By definition,

if you are anti-God, you have to be anti-christ.

There is no way around this. Pay attention now because the ride is going to get real bumpy from here on out (translation: no ears will be tickled):

To love the world – to love the secular is anti-God!

We can prove this in the same 1st John that we learned about those that deny Christ are anti-christs:

1 John 2:15 (CJB)
15  Do not love the world or the things of the world.

If someone loves the world,

then love for the Father is not in him;

Those that love the world do NOT love the Father! You can not be anti-God by loving the world and not be anti-christ as well!

To love the world – to love the secular is anti-Christ!

There are no mental gymnastics that will make this work. There are no rationalizations (attempts to make the unreasonable sound reasonable) that will make this work.

Brothers and sisters, you either believe the entire bible is the word of God or you don’t. You can NOT believe ½ or ¾, it is an ALL or NOTHING proposition!

If you believe anything less than 100% of the text,

you are calling God a liar – you are saying some of his Word lies.

To be worldly is to concern yourself with human standards instead of godly standards.

To be godly is to concern yourself with godly standards and forsake human standards.

To be worldly is to be anti-christ

because worldly is anti-God by definition

If you want to read more in depth about what worldly is and means, read my following post:

Definition of Oxymoron? A “Worldy” Christian/Messianic . . .

Now the ride is going to get more than bumpy, it a going to become a runaway semi coming down a mountain with a 6% grade with no brakes, failing tires, and a bad power steering pump – brace yourselves . . .

In 2012, the Democratic National Convention voted on an amendment by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland to put a removed God and Israel back in their platform. They took a vote to amend this and declared a 2/3rds consensus vote after 3 separate votes because in each vote, the delegates that voted “aye” were clearly not in the majority. The NO votes were audibly louder. In spite of this, they declared the amendment passed anyways. Why? Simple. They could not have won the election if they hadn’t! Even more simply put, it would have been hard for people that identified themselves as Democrats to go to their churches and shuls belonging to an anti-God party without being hypocrites. How do you go to a house of God and worship when you belong to a party that audibly declares it is anti-God? Eventually, and in time, they will get around this just like they already have with homosexuality and abortion. Homosexuality and abortion are an accepted part of the Democratic platform. Homosexuality and abortion are human standards in opposition to godly standards. They are worldly standards. They are anti-God standards.

By definition, the anti-God is anti-Christ.

The Republican party is just as guilty and maybe more so. That same year, the Republican party put a Mormon at the forefront of their party. Mormons do NOT believe that Yeshua (Jesus) is Lord. They deny that Yeshua (Jesus) is Lord.

1 John 2:22 (CJB)
22  Who is a liar at all, if not the person who

denies that Yeshua is the Messiah?

Such a person is an anti-Messiah (anti-Christ)

he is denying the Father and the Son.

The Mormons by biblical definition are anti-Christ and therefore anti-God:

1 John 2:23 (CJB)
23  Everyone who denies the Son

is also without the Father,

but the person who acknowledges the Son

has the Father as well.

That year, the Democrats AND the Republicans both said in a loud voice, “We love the anti-christ!”

Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa are both atheists. By biblical definition, they are anti-christs. To listen to and buy their music – to memorize their lyrics, is to say in a loud voice, “We love the anti-christ!”

When a Herald (Preacher) of righteousness from the pulpit says He is going to cut the worship service short so that people can get home in time for the game, he is saying it is okay to make the worldly more important than the godly. According to the text which is the Word of God, when you love the world, you do NOT have the love of the Father in you. If you don’t have the love of the Father in you, you are anti-God and by definition, you are saying: “We love the anti-christ!”

When self-proclaimed Christian churches such as Rick Warren’s church, Perry Noble’s church, Mark Driscol’s church and others play secular music in their worship services, they are bringing the world into the House of God as part of their worship. They are loving the world and teaching others to do so as well. They have wandered off of the straight path and are following Balaam:

1 John 2:15 (CJB)
15  Do not love the world or the things of the world.

If someone loves the world,

then love for the Father is not in him;

In loving the world, they have no love for the Father. That is unless you want defend them by calling God a liar. His word says loving the world means you do not love God. Who is right, you or God? Playing secular music as part of a ministry is tantamount to saying, “We love the anti-christ!”

When you pay money to see an athletic event or buy the merchandise of a team or organization that openly goes against God’s word (promoting idolatry, drinking, cheerleaders promoting sexuality, greed, homosexuality, etc), you by definition are supporting an organization that is anti-God. When a league praises someone for being openly homosexual and condemns someone for being openly Christian, they are being both anti-God and anti-Christ. When you pay for their product, you are helping them enlarge their platform and their influence to say: “We love the anti-christ!”

Democratic Party platform: human standard or godly standard?

Republican Party nomination of Mitt Romney: human standard or godly standard?

Loving and purchasing the music of atheist musicians: human standard or godly standard?

Worldly music in the ministry: human standard or godly standard?

Loving sports teams and organizations that promote the opposite of the text: human standard or godly standard?

But it doesn’t stop here. How about when some Messianics go on their yearly tirades around Christmas time or Easter concerning some of the pagan traditions the church has allowed to become part of their worship celebrations? Do they not become equally guilty of hypocrisy for measuring the Christian church by a standard that they do not and will not apply to themselves when they in turn go to their secular movies, watch their secular sports and use Facebook – a media service which everyone knows was a product of Mark Zuckerberg  who is an atheist, which by definition means that he denies Yeshua (Jesus) making him an anti-christ? Aren’t they saying just as loud as everyone else they condemn in their own works: “We love the anti-christ too?”

Don’t take this post as a personal attack, take it in the love it was written in. It is a call to repentance – for ALL of us! We are all sinners and we were all called by Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah (Christ) to turn to God from our sins – ALL of them!

We are to do this without excuses or rationalizations. We are to do this because he told us to be Holy because He is Holy. In other words, we are to pursue the godly standards and forsake the worldly ones without exception and without excuses because we are either children of God or children of the Adversary:

1 John 3:10 (CJB)
10  Here is how one can distinguish clearly

between God’s children and those of the Adversary:

everyone who does not continue doing what is right

is not from God.

Likewise, anyone who fails to keep loving his brother

is not from God.

To be His children, we need to do what is right. If we don’t, then we are NOT. If we are not the children of God, we are the children of the Adversary. If we believe most of the text but not all of it, we are children of the Adversary calling God a liar just like the serpent did to Eve in the garden. We are saying we love the lie over the truth. We are saying “We love the anti-christ!”

Hard post I know. However, if we truly love him . . .

we will forsake the human standard (worldliness)

and pursue the godly standard (Holiness)

because we were commanded to do this –

to be Holy because He is Holy.

1 John 5:3 (CJB)
3  For loving God means obeying his commands . . .

Is worldliness obedience or disobedience of God’s commands?

Is worldiness loving God

or

is worldliness loving the anti-christs?

  1. 1wanderingtruthseeker says:

Well then, does that make you and me anti-christs for writing/reading on the computer?

    • Good question!

I guess that would depend on whether we are using our computers in His service or whether we are using our computers to chase after the world.

At then end of the day, we are either turning towards Him (repenting) or away from Him (apostasy).

That being said, the computer doesn’t sin, it is just a machine. It is the person that sits behind the computer that tells the computer what to do and where to go. It is the person behind the computer that decides whether he or she is going to use it as a tool for good or a tool for evil.

It can be used to study the text and it can be used to view porn. I t can be used to reach out and teach others about the Messiah or it can be used to have an illicit affair.

It is always a heart issue . . . Our heart towards the Creator of all things or towards the world.

So the question to ask that will answer your question is this:

Are you using your computer in the service of His godly standards or are you using it in the service of human standards (which is worldliness)?

      • 1wanderingtruthseeker says:

Then that should apply to everything else. It’s not the thing itself that is bad, but the persons intentions. It is a whole lot like gun rights. Its not the gun that is bad, but the person behind it. And its right. How do you get around commericals on the web?

      • Another good question!

Commercials are a hard one – a commercial is a small message with the sole purpose of getting you to covet . . . you’ll be happier if, you’ll be liked by women or men better if, you’ll be accepted by society if etc. . . you like, use try and buy our product.

Commercials were the thing that helped my wife and I see just how damaging television is and eventually give it up all together – – – we rationalized at first (attempts to make the unreasonable sound reasonable) that not all shows were bad . . . it was commercials that helped us stop our rationalizations . . there wasn’t one for a commercial (a study I quote in one of the posts on here says that 20,000 a year for the average person and over 2 million by the time they are 65) – – don’t know many people that have read 2 million verses in the text by the time they are 65 . . . . once we got there, we were in the right frame of mind to examine the other parts of television critically and without rationalization . . . we haven’t looked back and spend a ton more time with friends and family

the internet has commercials (those tiny little covetous messages) and they permeate it.

Kind of like driving down the road – billboards everywhere – our mailboxes – car dealerships putting their newest and slickest car up on the spinning whatch-a-ma-bob to get us to say . . . I have to have that!

there is a teaching in the text that we are to be IN the world, not OF the world. the writer Paul tells us if that to avoid all the worldliness around us, we would have to leave the world all together because there is nowhere that it is not prevalent:

        1 Corinthians 5:9-13 (CJB)
9 In my earlier letter I wrote you not to associate with people who engage in sexual immorality.
10 I didn’t mean the sexually immoral people outside your community, or the greedy, or the thieves or the idol-worshippers — for then you would have to leave the world altogether!
11 No, what I wrote you was not to associate with anyone who is supposedly a brother but who also engages in sexual immorality, is greedy, worships idols, is abusive, gets drunk or steals. With such a person you shouldn’t even eat!
12 For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Isn’t it those who are part of the community that you should be judging?
13 God will judge those who are outside. Just expel the evildoer from among yourselves.

There is no way to escape commercials. However, we have a choice as to whether we view them . . . We have a choice as to whether we covet what they have to offer or are content with our lot in life . . . with our daily bread that He gives us as being enough. Again a heart issue towards the Creator and his holy standard or the world and its human standard.
