The Quandary of the self-professed Christians who ACCUSE Trump supporters of being anything but . . .

Quandary.  It may not be a word you are familiar with.

The Christian Noah Webster made a dictionary with biblical basis in its definitions – biblical principles in its assertions. It is my dictionary of choice for this very reason. It quotes the biblical text in some of its definitions – it quotes famous people quoting the text in others.

The 1913 edition of this dictionary defines QUANDARY as:

To bring into a state of uncertainty, perplexity, or difficulty.

It defines ACCUSE as:

  1. To charge with, or declare to have committed, a crime or offense; (Law) to charge with an offense, judicially or by a public process;—with of; as, to accuse one of a high crime or misdemeanor.

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

Acts 24:13

  1. To charge with a fault; to blame; to censure.

Their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing one another.

Romans 2:15

  1. To betray; to show.

Syn.—To charge; blame; censure; reproach; criminate; indict; IMPEACH; arraign.—To ACCUSE Charge, Impeach, Arraign…

Webster’s 1913 Unabridged English Dictionary.

The biblical text has another definition for accuser: ‏שָׂטָן‎ sātān

It is a word that means Adversary – Accuser – Opponent – Son of the morning – serpent – covering cherub – prince of this world – prince of the power and air

This is what an accuser is. This is why there is NO love in accusation. Notice the following verse :

He showed me Y’hoshua the cohen hagadol standing before the angel of Adonai,

with the Accuser [Hebrew: Satan] standing at his right to accuse him.
Zechariah 3:1 (Complete Jewish Bible)

It is a serious word and just one part part of a quandary for those that ACCUSE believers that voted for and/or support President Trump as being ANYTHING but a child of Messiah.

The bigger part of the quandary is the following in the text (I will use several translations):

Everyone is to obey the governing authorities. For there is no authority that is not from God, and the existing authorities have been placed where they are by God.
Romans 13:1 (Complete Jewish Bible)

Every person should obey the government in power. No government would exist if it hadn’t been established by God. The governments which exist have been put in place by God.
Romans 13:1 (God’s Word)

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Romans 13:1 (New International Version)

LET EVERY person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment.
Romans 13:1 (Amplified Bible)

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Romans 13:1 (King James Version)

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
Romans 13:1 (New American Standard Bible (1995 Update))

Do you see the quandary now?!?

Is this difficult? Are you uncertain? Are you perplexed?

If you are unsure, let me ask it a different way with several questions combined.

Based on the biblical text above,

Was President Clinton in power by man’s hand or by God’s?

Was President Obama in power by man’s hand or by God’s?

What about President Trump?

You either believe that the above quoted biblical text is true or you do not.

If you don’t, by definition, you are not an evangelical. That is what an evangelical is – they believe the bible is true . . . ALL of it! If you don’t, you are NOT evangelical – simple as that.

You see, if you BELIEVE the text quoted above, then you ALSO believe the people in power are “established by God – Ordained by God – exist by God’s appointment – have been placed where they are by God.”

Does this mean He favors them?

Not necessarily. They could be a warning. They could be a judgment. They could be a savior. They could be a secular prophet named Balaam. They can even be a guy that worships multiple gods and is called a messiah – a christ like King Koresh (Cyrus) was.

cyrus.jpg

How would people TODAY classify Cyrus – a polytheistic (worships more than one god) king anointed to do God’s will – if that happened TODAY instead of then ?

Would they condemn God’s messiah – His christ? Would they write articles against him? Would they?

I think you know the answer.

How are we to understand how God could allow a Hitler to rule? Or Stalin? Or Saddam?

Or not to put to fine a point on it . . . Satan?

His ways are not our ways – His thoughts are not our thoughts.

He is the immutable God and it is His prerogative to do as He pleases.

The point is, He does what He does and allows what He allows for His own purposes. Our votes do not determine who He ordains or establishes. Our will does not influence His. He is Creator and we are creation.

When a a self-professed Evangelical Christian like Eric Sapp from a magazine such as the Christian Post writes an Op-Ed in 2016 and makes the following statement:

I see three options for evangelicals in this election and none of them include voting for Trump. Evangelicals can morally justify a protest for a third party, not at all, or join the 30%+ of evangelicals saying they’ll vote for Hillary Clinton.

What we cannot do is to cast our vote for Donald Trump.”

Does he seem to believe the text above, or is he simply accusing? He asks the following:

What will it do the evangelical witness if we are marked by our support of Trump?”

The same could be asked of a self-professing “Evangelical” that supports a candidate that is PRO-abortion and PRO-homosexual like Hillary Clinton – both things she supports and are CLEARLY against the text of Adonai.

Chris Thurman, a Voices Contributor for the Christian Post, writes the following:

I believe evangelicals who support Donald Trump are being both blind and foolish to do so and that labeling them as such is not sinful but appropriate and necessary. By support, I’m not referring to evangelicals who voted for Trump in 2016.

I’m referring to those evangelicals who continue to hold Trump up as a great leader,

say he is God’s chosen one for the presidency,”

Based on this last statement, and the text of Adonai quoted above, who is right: God or Chris?

Is Chris an evangelical (one who believe that ALL of God’s word is true)? Chris rationalizes (attempts to make the unreasonable sound reasonable) his stance using biblical text and why it does NOT apply to him.

It is simple.

He either does not know the text above OR He does not believe it to be true because of this particular statement:

I’m referring to those evangelicals who continue to hold Trump up as a great leader,

say he is God’s chosen one for the presidency,

I can not think of any other conclusion that one could draw from his statements that he makes.

He then goes on to apologize in a later article. It starts off real good and then denigrates back onto the same attacks on Trump . . .

“the things Trump has done to erode our societal bonds . . . ” – “his pathological lying . . . “trump engaging in words and actions that damage the dignity of others . . . ” – not only draining the swamp but putting a different form of dirty swamp water in its place . . . ” – Trump being militantly unwilling to face his own fallenness and be truly apologetic for how wounding he is to others . . . “

This is an apology?!?

Dr Michael Brown is not helpful when he lends credence to the apology by stating:

and may He bless you for your humility.”

This was NOT humility. It was obfuscation and Michael bought it because he apologized to him.

Remember that Noah Webster dictionary thing? Let’s see what it says for HUMILITY:

The state or quality of being humble;

freedom from pride and arrogance;

lowliness of mind; a modest estimate of one’s own worth;

a sense of one’s own unworthiness through imperfection and sinfulness;

self-abasement; humbleness.

Serving the Lord with all humility of mind.

Acts 20:19

Webster’s 1913 Unabridged English Dictionary.

The point is, Chris Thurman is a Ph.D. Michael is also a Ph.D. They should both know better. When you read the whole article, this was NOT humble. It is prideful and arrogant. Chris used the bible like a bludgeoning tool to be morally superior to those he denigrated. He did this all while ignoring or simply dismissing the text above about who God puts or allows to be in power to govern.

A final quandary example is perhaps the most disturbing.

It is by Mark Galli the Editor in Chief of Christianity Today. Mark write the following:

“Whether Mr. Trump should be removed from office by the Senate or by popular vote next election—that is a matter of prudential judgment.

That he should be removed, we believe, is not a matter of partisan loyalties

but loyalty to the Creator of the Ten Commandments.”

Does Mark believe the following based on his statement above?

  • the existing authorities have been placed where they are by God. (CJB)
  • The governments which exist have been put in place by God. (GW)
  • The authorities that exist have been established by God. (NIV)
  • For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment. (Amplified Bible)
  • For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (KJV)
  • For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. (NASB 1995)

Is Mark an evangelical? Does he believe the statements above? Does he really have the temerity to think HE can choose whether Obama or Clinton or Trump stay in power and override what God has established?

He goes on to state the following:

To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump in spite of his blackened moral record, we might say this: Remember who you are and whom you serve.”

I wonder if Mark would support Cyrus, one of Adonai’s messiahs, or would he denigrate God’s chosen leader as well if Cyrus were our President while worshiping multiple gods?

The arrogance and pomposity of these 3 men, and all the others who write similar things bashing any Christian that does not line up with their own version of right and wrong, is staggering.

We can find fault with the man Trump. He is not infallible. But God has him where he has him for a reason. Just like he did with Obama and with Clinton and Cyrus too.

That is, IF you believe ALL of the text.

At the end of the day, the criticisms by these men of other children of Messiah that support a President that they obviously don’t like,  ignore the text that states who is in power and why.

They made it personal and attacked fellow believers who don’t share their same views.

Their approach to the biblical text seems to be much like the Accuser’s was that day he tried to tempt Messiah.

I use the Accuser as an example since these men are accusing anyone that doesn’t line up with their own beliefs, as basically being anything other than children of Messiah.

One even goes on to call them fools and then rationalizes (attempts to make the unreasonable sound reasonable) why the verse about NOT calling someone a fool does NOT apply to him.

The Accuser quoted the text to Messiah and Messiah said 4 little words to him . . .

But it also says . . .”

THIS is what it also says:

  • the existing authorities have been placed where they are by God. (CJB)
  • The governments which exist have been put in place by God. (GW)
  • The authorities that exist have been established by God. (NIV)
  • For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment. (Amplified Bible)
  • For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (KJV)
  • For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. (NASB 1995)

I believe what it says, do you?

Blessings!

Dani'el 3:17-18 (CJB) 17 Your majesty, if our God, whom we serve, is able to save us, he will save us from the blazing hot furnace and from your power. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want you to know, your majesty, that we will neither serve your gods nor worship the gold statue which you have set up.”
